Technician position (molecular biology) in the Molecular Plant-Virus interactions group – Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology.

The Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology (PSC) is a recently established institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with joint funding from the Chinese central government and the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences. PSC fosters innovative, vibrant, and interactive research groups synergized by a battery of state-of-the-art core facilities including genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, cell biology and biotechnology. PSC is located in the picturesque Chenshan Botanical Garden, just 25 miles away from the city centre.

Research overview
The primary research interests of the Molecular Plant-Virus Interactions group are to understand how plants sense and respond to plant pathogenic viruses, and how viruses manipulate the plant cell to establish a successful infection. We follow multidisciplinary approaches, integrating genetics, cell biology and biochemistry, to elucidate the cellular and molecular events underlying plant susceptibility to viruses, with a special focus on the DNA viruses geminiviruses. In the medium term, we expect to work closely with breeders and biotechnologists to translate our findings to the field, ensuring that our research has an impact on plant protection and agriculture.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual, willing to work as part of an international team. Experience in molecular biology is essential; a MSc degree is desirable but not necessary. The ability to communicate in English is required. The main task of the successful candidate will be to assist in basic molecular biology techniques, especially cloning and plasmid construction.

Initial appointment is for three years but flexible.
To Apply: Applications in English only. Please send your CV, cover letter, and two references to Rosa Lozano-Duran (lozano-duran@sibs.ac.cn) and Xinyu Jian (jianxinyu@sibs.ac.cn). Informal enquiries are welcome.
